— FIRST IMPRESSIONS —

APPEARANCE Six foot three, often called by Eddie Dean "long, tall, and ugly". He has cool blue shooter’s eyes, the color of the sky at first light. His black hair is streaked with white by the time he reaches Calla Bryn Sturgis. His face is tanned, lined and weathered, and he has deep crow’s feet. His smile is as dangerous as quicksand. Looks at least fifty and has more than a passing resemblance to Clint Eastwood, though mostly in the eyes. His body is covered with scars from knife slashes, burns, whippings and bullet wounds. CLOTHING Typical Thornish clothing, with a preference for muted, non bright colours and soft, organic fibres. If there are jeans he'll wear them. Whatever he wears is kept fairly neat, but never pristine. His white Thorne robes have dirt and gun oil stain at the sleeves.

DEMEANOR Quiet, watchful, perhaps a little cantankerous. He works hard to make sure that what people see when they look at him is what he wants them to see in the moment, and that's usually a capable man who you could overlook but shouldn't mess with.

AURAL Soft spoken, and often well-spoken. He uses many words that will be unfamiliar to most, but he tries to pick up the general slang and use it in order to be less obvious to people around him.

OLFACTORY Tobacco smoke (or the equivalent in Throne). Gunpowder, gun smoke, gun oil. If you're very close, soap.

This is where you can put the skills/powers/magic your character might have before entering the game!

GUNSLINGING As a gunslinger, Roland has reached peak human performance with shooting guns, aiming, etc. He can shoot something faster than the usual human eye can follow, reload with ridiculous speed, etc etc. He got a headshot on a guy so far away that other people couldn't see them without binoculars. Because of missing the index and middle fingers on his right hand he's a little more limited, but his skill level is still extremely ridiculous. He also knows a bunch about guns and bullets and caring for them, etc.

GUNSLINGING BUT TALKING not so much powers as training in the ways of being a gunslinger, which in his culture meant primarily training in becoming a fighter and killer, but also included peacekeeping, negotiation, mediation. This means Roland is willing to butcher anyone and everyone he needs to, but also is willing to look for other solutions first if they exist.

MAYBE HE'S BORN WITH IT So at some point Roland was 14 years old and Gilead was standing. Hundreds of years have passed since Gilead fell and Roland is still alive and kicking and looking only about 50 years old, so either he doesn't age normally or he's immortal. He can still be injured and can be killed in all the usual ways that would kill someone. There's also the suggestion that he's lived for hundreds of years multiple times, on a loop in his quest for the Dark Tower. It's weird.

ENDURANCE Perhaps willpower? Roland just doesn't stop until his body physically refuses to do the things he wants. He's shown that he doesn't stop regardless of exhaustion or physical pain/injury and he either recovers from injury faster than normal or is able to push through despite recovering from serious injury. This extends to mental resistance, in that Roland has been seen to resist succubi and other creatures who usually have a high degree of ability to manipulate people.

MAGIC RESISTANCE He's aware of ways to resist mental attacks, and it's shown that there's some magic which doesn't effect him. This may be an innate, but is likely due to effort and practice on his part to gain mental endurance to match his physical endurance.

BULLET HYPNOTISM Roland can play bullet shells off his fingers, lulling a person into a deep hypnotic slumber where he can pry open their minds. The hypnosis can alter a mindset meaningfully enough to make a tired teenager become legitimately rested from suggestion alone; it can even make someone stop smoking or drinking; it can even make someone forget something that Roland doesn't want them to remember. The hypnotic state can work exceedingly quickly even from just a brief glance.
